Jigsaw Store
The scheme draws on principles explored
in earlier gallery designs, creating a
condition of visual clarity where the focus
falls on contents rather than container,
replacing a confusion of elements with a
series of powerful architectural experiences.
The existing frontage is sliced away and
all but the structural components of the
interior scooped out. Symmetry is restored
to the façade by means of a pair of
generously scaled openings with bronze
mullions and plinth, set in Portland stone
and incorporating a full-height door.
Behind this transparent facade the first
floor is cut back to create a double-height
space six metres high, creating an
immediate impression of space and light
and a dramatic context for display.
