Chroma
The set design for this one-act ballet, choreographed by Wayne McGregor with music by Joby Talbot and lighting by Lucy Carter, uses the architectural motifs of inside and outside, entrance and exit, light and shadow, void and plenitude, to create a spatially charged environment explored through the medium of the dancers’ bodies. Although the set is static throughout the 25 minutes running time of the piece, the way the space reads is radically transformed through changes in the application of light. Thus the back plane can be made to appear nearer or further, its aperture to dominate
or recede.
