The colourful and decorative character of the doorways and windows in these images from recent travels in Colombia speaks of the significance of the idea of threshold. Even something so modest and functional as a simple gate in a barbed wired fence acquires a particular charge by virtue of the way the eye experiences its redness against the complementary — and literal — field of green.
