While generosity of scale is not a
prerequisite for simplicity, its impact can
be to generate graphic clarity in the visual
field. In these images of Sledmere House
in East Yorkshire, the grid of windows,
the columns, the pedimented elements
and the array of topiary trees all serve to
underscore an impression of monumental
