‘…no word was ever as effective as a rightly timed pause…’ Mark Twain

It is almost two decades since work finished
on this compact house in a Tokyo suburb —
the office’s first realised domestic project
in Japan. Its meticulously restrained
elevations remain quietly inscrutable,
merely hinting at the richly atmospheric
character of the spaces framed within this
rectangular envelope of concrete, tinted
to reflect the internal division of the floors.
