These photographs record the German sculptor, Matthias Kohn, carving out a pair of basins from a block of marble that will eventually be installed in an apartment in Copenhagen. As well as capturing the sensuous character of the solid stone and the beauty of the transitory marks made during the narrative of creating form and honing surfaces, the sequence of images expresses important truths analogous to the making of certain types of architecture: ‘it is a process of elimination’.
