Liturgical rhythms
The design of the Cistercian monastery
of Nový Dvůr in the Czech Republic was
shaped by the community’s structured
quotidian life of private prayer, communal
worship, contemplation, study and manual
labour. In parallel with the defining beat of
these daily rhythms runs the longer
repeating cycle of the liturgical year.
In these photographs, brothers prepare
a carpet of flowers along the cloister in
preparation for the Feast of Corpus Christi
— celebrated on the Thursday after Trinity
Sunday — using blooms gathered from
local forests, meadows and gardens.
