Interlude

For a brief period, poured concrete
foundations in a forest in Japan serve as
mirror pools for the surrounding trees.
The razor clarity of the reflections augments
the charge of this interlude of stillness,
before the footprint of a building becomes a
three-dimensional composition — before it
acquires the defining architectural qualities
of mass, space and proportion.
