Archaeology of a house
Some of these items are part of the house’s inventory of fixtures and fittings — handmade nails, window stays, latches and hinges; others represent traces of its occupation — fragments of pottery, a comb and a solitary button. However individually insignificant, as traces of a place and its inhabitants, each of these objects carries its own charge.
