John Pawson

Windows in the front and back walls form the principal organisational element of this gallery located on the upper level of a shared commercial building. Visitors enter by means of a communal staircase and reach the gallery — a cube within a cube — after first encountering the reception area, library and office, these secondary spaces providing a buffer between the outside world and the art within. A shop window at street level on the opposite side of the road provides a changing showcase for art.
