Winter shift

In recent weeks, the appearance of the landscape around Home Farm has been subject to radical transformation. Freezing temperatures have bleached and muted its usual vibrancy to delicate gradations of blue, green, ochre and grey, the pale air draping itself over everything like a chalky veil. And just as the eye is accustoming itself to the subtleties of this spectral range, so the sinking sun fills the winter sky and all reflective surfaces — water, marble and glass — with a blaze of radiant colour.
