‘There is nothing permanent except change’ Heraclitus

Built between 1714 and 1729 to a design by Nicholas Hawksmoor, for nearly three centuries Christ Church, Spitalfields has stood witness to the ceaseless cycles of construction, destruction and reconfiguration on the encircling cityscape. Itself little altered within an urban composition that is in a constant state of flux, its distinctive mass is evidence of permanence within the general condition
of change.
