The view from up here

Earlier this year, the view from a plane window, however objectively exhilarating, would have tended towards the commonplace. For the past months the scope for downward perspectives has generally been measured in terms of the distance from our eyes to the ground, the height of a flight of stairs or the elevation of an upper floor window.
